Registration Process – Overview
Am I required to be registered with the College to become a Registered Dietitian (RD)? |
Yes. You must be registered with the College of Dietitians of Manitoba (the College) in order to legally work as a Dietitian in Manitoba. Even if you have a degree or experience working as a Dietitian in another country, you may not call yourself a Dietitian in Manitoba until you have become registered with the College. |

How long does it take to become a Registered Dietitian (RD)? |
Most Internationally Educated Dietitians complete the registration process in 12 months or more. |
What does it cost? |
The registration process usually costs $6,000 or more. |
I want to become a Registered Dietitian (RD). What key steps must I complete? |
Step 1: IEP Application All Internationally Educated Dietitians must submit this initial application. The College will review your application to determine the steps you must complete. Step 2: Document Assessment Some Internationally Educated Dietitians are required to upgrade their education. Step 3: Substantial Equivalence Testing (SET) Assessment Some Internationally Educated Dietitians are eligible to under the SET assessment.

As a Graduate Dietitian, you can work with some restrictions. Step 5: Registered Dietitian All Internationally Educated Dietitians who pass the exam (CDRE) will automatically be upgraded to Registered Dietitian (RD) from Graduate Dietitian.

What employment opportunities are available if I do NOT register with the College? |
If you decide not to pursue registration with the College, your degree in Nutrition may help you secure employment within the nutrition community. However, you will NOT be permitted to use the title Dietitian since you will NOT be registered with the College. |
